Leadership is the possession and use of abilities that make sound decisions which are inspirational to others with an aim of making them follow a particular course of action directed to better performance. It, therefore, gives objective direction, inspiration and encouragement as a way of motivating others to achieve organizational pursuits. Leadership is different from management in that management primarily involves the organizational role of coordinating abilities and allocating resources to maximize efficiency in achieving the set targets. The outstanding factor differentiating leaders from managers is that leaders motivate people to follow them while managers make individuals work for them whether through will or coercion. Good leadership always has an ability to set and achieve complex goals (Meyer & Behar-Horenstein, 2015). Leadership utilizes quick, decisions in complex situations. Description of Leadership Experience

My high school education completion came with opportunity. Immediately I traveled back to my home country; I was lucky to find a job in a busy. We were 48 young men dedicated to meet production demands. Since I was the most educated in the group, I couldn’t ask to聽write my paper for me, the owner made me the team leader though I was to work just like my friends. The owner scheduled half of us to work on day shift while the other half on the night shift. As a team leader, I was allowed to stay within so that I could ensure all was well.

At the same time, half of those on night shift fell sick and hence did not report to work. Since I didn鈥檛 want my employer to lose his customers from the fact that there were other bakeries in the town, I informed my boss and requested him so that I could call those who had worked on day shift so that they could commit some few hours and earn an extra coin. At the same time, the mobile phone network had issues, and no calls or texts could go through. I took a motorbike, ran to the estate where those on day shift lived and convinced them to come back which they did.


We started baking at 9 pm and by 1 pm we were through with an excess of 50 loafs. My friend thanked me for my effort of making them earn what they did not expect. I managed to retain our customers. He was surprised with my idea.


I came up with the new schedule which we used and surprisingly, we did not experience any difficulty whenever some of the team members were absent. Simple ideas of standby staff were welcomed by all and whenever I suggest anything, my boss, and my team members used to follow it. What a leadership experience;

The Leadership Skills I Used

The main leadership skills as I utilized in this factory were creativity, commitment, and confidence. The event that happened that day taught me that as a team leader J.T. Despite the disruption in a communication network, I was up to my task. I went up to their residences to pick them to meet our customer鈥檚 demand. This commitment ensured that we maintained our customer. Creativity as my strength surfaced in when some of the team members felt sick and missed to report to the job without informing me. For future continuity, I developed a standby workforce which took managed absenteeism.


Despite starting baking late coupled with the quantity of the customer order, I developed confidence that we would manage. This made me locate those who were willing to come back. My confidence that we would deliver motivated my friends who also became confidence that we would manage. The determination was another skill I utilized during this situation. My presence ensured that we produce up to surplus. Therefore, my presence as a team leader and taking an equal share of the work made my friends get motivated.
